Mathematics 1 Major

There are two types of College or University Maths 1 courses. Those, Maths Major which are for students who will study further in Maths and Applied Maths subjects and those that will basically terminate here at Maths. This course is for the former. Recommended that you stick on this until you absolutley can't, and then try one more time to do it. If you drop out to the minor maths programs, your maths career ends here.

First year Maths Major is very similar at all Universities and Colleges. This course will apply to most first year College or University courses. You cover two areas - Algebra and Calculus.

At most Universitities Maths 1 is seen as a “meat grinder”. Students come from all different backgrounds and platforms. They are pushed through a standard set of materials and tests and the course is as much about introducing basic undergraduate study method as is is about mathematics itself.

Don't expect surprises. There wont be any. Maths 1 is the gutter of the profession and your lectureres are likely to be no more that a few steps ahead of you. It is easy to get ahead of this. The course is strutured for a wide community and is taylored to be simple for your teachers as much as for you. In many ways this is easier that high school maths, except that there is no one chasing you and it is is easy to cop out out - your ability to self sustain is the true test of this course.

We extend Maths 1 with an introductory course in Linear Algebra. This is not required for most first year courses. We include it to ensure that Copeman Academy will give you the leading First year course in the world. You should be able to transfer from here to the top second year programs anywhere in the world. We also introduce a point and click mutiple choise marking system and break with the "handwritten" exams of other Universities. After Maths 1 Major with Copeman Academy you will be ready for most Applied Maths, Statistics, Econometrics Courses and well as have the capabilities to handle most algorythms in Development.

In first year maths you will be tested on self motivation. You should not be expected to be “herded along” The meat grinder has a basic aim divide the class into the half that pass and the half that get sidelined into lower level classes of Maths or rejected altogether. Your aim is to be in the former and it is up to you personally to get there. The system is ruthless.

The best way to prepare for this course is to revise Grade 12 Algebra and AP Maths. Make sure you can get A* for those papers.

We invite High School you lions to try this course. The 20th century classroom system does not make allowances for the fact that all students are not equal. There is no reason why talented or focused high school lions shoudl not attempt this. You have only fear to fear.
