The fist step, after installing TurboCASH5, is to find a Set of Books (template) that matches your requirements.

Depending on your choice of the country and language on the "Select country and language" screen; when you have installed TurboCASH5, one or more Set of Books for the specific country and language will be installed.

The Open Set of Books screen will list only those Set of Books which is installed. These installed Sets of Books us stored in the "... / books" folder of your TurboCASH5 installation.

If the Chart of accounts and / or correct language, is not installed, you may Browse and open a Set of Books that is more suitable for your requirements.

All the Sets of Books (templates) is included in the TurboCASH5 install, including those not installed for your selected country, is stored in the "... / bin / Repository" folder.

Once you have selected your Set of Books, go to Save as on the Start ribbon, to edit your Chart of accounts.

The accounts structure in all of the Set of Books templates ( "... / bin / Repository" folder) consists of 3-digit main accounts and 3-digit sub-accounts, except for the following Sets of Books:

Books with 4-digit main account and 3 -digit-sub-accounts

Books with 5-digit main account and 3 -digit-sub-accounts

After opening a Set of Books, you may print a list of the Chart of accounts from the following options:

Reports  Ledger Listing menu.

Ledger analyser 1 / Ledger analyser 2 - Trial balance - "Ignore zero balances" option not selected. The default "Groups" is none. This will list all the Ledger accounts (Chart of accounts) according to the account code. To preview how the Chart of accounts is structured and linked to Financial categories, Account group 1 and Account group 2,  select Reporting groups 1 or Reporting group 2.

Plan your Chart of accounts according to the following guidelines:

Increment each account number by either 5 or 10 to cater for future additions.

If possible, list your accounts in alphabetical order according to account types.

Group similar accounts in similar predefined ranges e.g. 600 - 699 for Fixed assets.

List your accounts in the order in which you would like them reported.

TurboCASH allows for 999 main accounts (in a 3-digit Set of Books). Each account may also have up to 999 sub-accounts. This should be enough for most businesses.

Some Sets of Books may contain 4-digit main, and 5-digit main accounts. The option to "Create a Set of Books (Advanced)" on the "Creation wizard" (Create Set of Books on the Start ribbon), allows you to create your own Set of Books from scratch. This will then ask you to specify the number of digits for accounts (from 3 to 8-digits). You need to enter the following 3 control accounts;

Retained income / earnings.

Creditor's control account.

Debtor's control account.

The following ranges (based on the 3-digit main account codes) are an example that you should try to follow. It is NOT the Chart of accounts you will be using - it is merely a guide as to the ranges.
