The Challenge
South Africa ranks at number 138 at Maths teaching.
1,2 Million entrants - 8,000 distinctions (0,6%).
2,000 come from IEB schools (15%).
Raise distinctions from 8,000 to 10,000.
The Solution
We have a nascent industry that is leading the world in Online Education (Get Smarter, Mastermaths, Advantage Learn, Siyavula, Paper Video, TurboCASH Accounting).
The Copeman Academy is a new competitor and is getting astounding results. In a small sample we have a 100% distinction rate!
The Barrier
South Africa is one of the most unequal societies in the world. While some children study with all the necessary computer technology, others struggle with adequate nutrition and sanitation
Based on the extent of the trials so far with the Copeman Academy, we can reasonably expect a distinction rate of 50% on a sample of 4,000 installations.
The financing of 4,000 Connected, Dual-monitor, PC workstations (R 20,000 each), with 40 tutors (R 40,000 each), plus management - R 90 Million is challenging.
The Technology
Smartphones, Chromebooks and Ipads do not cut it. Students needs Desktop screen real estate to take full advantage of the Copeman Academy. The Markov processes involved in entrenching pattern recognition do not work without the correct hardware specs. Downloading video on demand and having flawless playback and video conferencing are necessities. There can be no hardware compromise without compromising on results.
The Finance
Ultimately the responsibility of financing the R 90 million lies with the parents of the children concerned. However they still need to be funnelled into the learning process and helped as much as possible with the financing of the process. The whole concept must be distributed through high street retail and promoted on mass media.
Partners
This is not a CIS or sponsorship proposal. Partners enter on a commercial basis, but profit should not be the primary motivation.

The Process
Each partner makes an upfront investment to stock, deliver and promote the system. This must be committed to before 2019. All parts must be in place by January 2019.
The back to school media campaign starts in January 2019 and all units should be sold by March 2019
We anticipate that the majority of these are sold on credit.
Units are sold at a price that is sustainable.
Objections
This is going to entrench inequality in schools as only the rich will be able to afford the systems.
Every educator makes a choice as to how they split their budget. Our current NEC school system goes with a 90% teacher budget and pays R 200,000 per distinction outcome. If they will not invest in the hardware, then it is up to the parents to do it.
This is an untested technology
The Partners are blue chip partners. Philip Copeman is one of South Africa's most successful software publishers with a long track record of success. He has been intimately involved in the development of the Copeman Academy
Do the Math
The only thing that matters is how many distinctions we get. The rest join the 9 Million unemployed looking for jobs that don't exist.
In a traditional NEC school where a teacher, earning R 200,000 per year teaches 100 learners and gets 1% distinctions, each distinction costs R 200,000.
In an IEB school where a teacher, earning R 400,000 per year teaches 100 learners (each with a R 10,000 PC) and gets 15% distinctions, each distinction costs R 100,000.
At the Copeman Academy where a tutor earning R 100,000 per year manages 100 learners (each with a R 20,000 PC) and gets 50% distinctions, each distinction costs R 40,000.
