Paul Allan has to sell his yacht and
Bill Gates has to move into a 52 Room downsized ranch. Here is a
hilarious tongue in cheek press release from Codeweavers, our up
streaming partners that develop the WINE emulator. Wine enables
TurboCASH to run on Linux and Apple. We sincerely hope that
Codeweavers have a bright future as they have opened up the Linux
market for us. Read
the full story.
Upstreaming is a vital process for Open
Source, by linking to other Open Source developers, we are able to
expand out development team to thousands of contributors. Upstreaming
is a key arrow for the Open Source bow and a vital part of the
TurboCASH offering. Microsoft may well be fighting back. See what
the Old Grizzly Bear is doing in the Open Source Woods with their
Codeplex project. Read

TurboCASH is really a very simple
application that takes transactions, posts them into accounts and
gives you reports on the results. What makes it powerful is the
flexibility of the program.
|
|
In TurboCASH, the account code system is setup to manage the
3 digit main/sub account codes common in the British Ex Pat countries, the 4 digit
systems of the European countries and even the 5 digit systems of
the North American countries. You are able to choose the chart of
accounts that best suits your business.
|
|
|
You are also able to choose from 3 separate invoicing systems,
B to B, POS or use and external invoicing system and import the
transactions into TurboCASH. Plugins have been developed to bring
data from MS Office, Open Office, OSCommerce, Virtuemart and
Vtiger. All this is available in source code and can easily be
modified to suit any system that you may wish to use.
|
|
|
All prompts in the system are read from a language file. This
file can easily be translated into you local language or even just
a variant to include your local terminology. Translators have
helped customise TurboCASH into 25 languages and over 80
different Tax systems. This has been a truly remarkable
achievement and TurboCASH now stands alone in this kind of
flexibility. One program, with one compile that can be used in any
country.
|
|
|
We have also extended the range of platforms that can be used.
TurboCASH is a native 32 Bit Windows
Application written in Delphi Pascal, using some of the best Open
Source components available. In particular the WINE emulator
enables TurboCASH to run on stock
standard Linux Boxes and the Codeweavers libraries enable
TurboCASH to run on Apple computers. This has created some
spectacular results. By stripping down Linux, we are able to
create “TurboCASH machines” that run TurboCASH in a shell on
even the oldest and most meagre 386 machines.
|
|
|
The Firebird SQL database has significantly extended the range
of TurboCASH Applications. The full SQL server now offers us
unprecedented power to handle large numbers of users. We have many
users now on 10 user systems and there is no contraint. There
should be little problem handling 50 users on a TurboCASH systems
if the hardware is in place.
|
|
|
Going down in scale, the Firebird embedded server now enables
TurboCASH to run as a Portable App on a flash drive. This means
that you can copy program and data onto a CD or flashdrive. Plugin
it into another computer and without installation or leaving a
foot print, run you TurboCASH anywhere.
|
|
|
Linux NX, Windows Terminal Services and XP Unlimited now offer
is the opportunity to run TurboCASH as a remote Online service.
Users can enter transactions and get reports over the Internet. I
had the experience last week of working an a TurboCASH system
running an minimal 386 computer with a Free Linux operating
system. This would not have been remarkable except that I was in
Cape Town and the machine was in a garage in Auckland!
|
|
|
The Plugin architecture allows TurboCASH to be easily extended.
So whether you are running a B&B n rural New Zealand, a
Warehouse in Idaho, a school in Thailand, a Church on Zimbabwe or
a coffee shop in Amsterdam, whter you are using a Laptop computer,
and Internet Cafe or a Dual Processor Server, you can use use the
same TrubOCASH from a single release point. That is the power of
Open Source.
